Before you take a look at Grade One sight reading, make sure you understand the note names and where to find each note on the piano keyboard.   



Learn Lines and spaces rhymes for the TREBLE CLEF.

Start with E, Move to the right using GAPS

Start with F,  Move to the right using GAPS

Start with A,  Move to the right using GAPS


IMPORTANT

 Make sure you know all the notes for the TREBLE and BASS clefs and how to find them on the piano keyboard.

Look at the piece of Sight Reading below

Start with finding POSITION for each hand 

 

Once POSITION is found , try to play the piece above  by reading each note. Work out if the music moves by a STEP  (next door note0 or a GAP  (miss one note).


Play the piece through. Then play the piece a second time paying attention to the DYNAMICS.

 P is 'Piano' soft.  MF is  Mezzo Forte, ie  Moderately Loud

Position Accidentals Play.


POSITION 

Find the starting POSITION for the right and left hands


ACCIDENTALS

Keep your fingers in position. Look for any ACCIDELTALS (Black notes).  Cover the black notes. Do not move.


PLAY

Start to play reading each note in turn. Keep your black and white notes covered.
